Über Zwischenstrom

2001 setze sich eine Gruppe Menschen aus dem Backlab Umfeld zusammen, um eine gemeinsame Veranstaltung zu organisieren, mit dem Ziel, internationale Musikerinnen und Musiker ins Mühlviertel zu bringen. Die erste Veranstaltung war das sogenannte Zwischenstromfestival, abgehalten in einem leerstehenden Stadel in der Nähe von Weitersfelden. Der Erfolg gab recht, und so wurde das Experiment auch im nächsten Jahr wiederholt. Nach zwei Jahren übersiedelte das Projekt aus Platzgründen ins Gasthaus Bindreiter, wo seither einmal im Jahr das Zwischenstromfestival im Sommer und der Zwischenstromball im Herbst stattfindet. Dazwischen gibt es bis zu dreimal im Jahr Zwischenstrom Spezial Veranstaltungen, zu denen aus ganz Österreich Publikum in den kleinen Mühlviertler Ort anreist.

Das Projekt arbeitet nicht gewinnorientiert, denn Ziel ist es, Kunst und Kultur in ländliche Gebiete zu bringen, in welchen ein solches Angebot ansonsten nicht existiert. Auch die Nachwuchsförderung ist dem Veranstalter Roland Bindreiter, Vorsitzender des Vereins Backlab, wichtig, und so können junge Mühlviertlerinnen und Mühlviertler neben Weltstars auf der Bühne stehen. Das Projekt wurde 2010 vorerst beendet.

About the backlab collective

backlab is a community, a pool, a group of creatives sharing resources. visual, audio or literature, experimental, practical or scientific – art under one roof, one name for all. no regional borders but regional teamwork, no global contest but global communication. art is no war but backlab is a defender. founded in 1998 backlab is dedicated to be a platform for artists with new ideas and the will to cooperate and share. the founders – the members of neun volt – soon collaborated with other artists agreeing to their idea of a collective spirit which offers all participating artists more possibilities through a strong foundation but never narrows the room for artistical freedom. so backlab soon changed its course from a mainly music-orientated community to a free-for-all-arts communication center. up to now musicians, graphic-designers, web-designers, writers, film-producers, djs and many more can be found in the backlab collective. the artists in this collective aim to collaborate closely with the other members of the network but the individual people behind the projects are focussed strongly on their own projects as well. even then the backlab collective can be used for helpful tasks like project-management, organisation and advertisment and merchandising. often backlab artists of different fields perform together at one event. bands, djs and visual artists combine the various influences of their work to create a completely unique atmosphere. sharing ideas remains the most important factor for backlab artists. no matter where the artists working-place is – from the backlab headquarter in Weitersfelden (upper-austria) to Vienna, where some artists live – the spirit of backlab can be felt beyond all boundaries.
